Atlantis Swimmers shine at Littlehampton Gala

13th April 2011

With senior squad swimmers away training in Italy, 11 junior Atlantis swimmers competed last Sunday closer to home at the Littlehampton open meet. Some were chasing Regional Qualifying Times, others returning from injury and some just loving the competition!

Each swimmer had some excellent swims, many winning medals and grabbing personal best times.

Lauren Pedel (10) and Leah Clarke (11) achieved South East Regional Qualifying times respectively in the 200m Breast and 100m Freestyle.  Lauren knocked over 17 secs off her personal best time and Leah achieved her time by the slimmest of margins 0.01sec.

Lauren also won gold in the 100m Breast, silver in 200m Breast and bronze in 50m free - an excellent day for her all round. Leah picked up silver in her 50 free.

Eve Clarke (9) won bronze in 200m breast, silver in 50m free as well as a huge 15 sec PB in her 200m free.  Gemma Cumber (10) won bronze in the 200m back and a 2 sec PB in her 200m IM right at the end of a long days swimming. Jessica Matlock (10) took silver in both the 200m Fly and 200m IM.

Jennifer Nash (13) got a bronze in the 100m free and this on top of several really good swims during the day where she narrowly missed out on medals showed real determination. Yasmin Hooker (12) got a gold in 100m back and a bronze in 200m back showing she is returning to her best.

James Hartley (10) again scooped a hatful of medals - gold in 200m IM , 200m Free , 200m Breast and silver in 200m back with PBs in all of them.  Ben Stevens (10) bagged bronze in 200m IM with a 15 sec PB, bronze in 50m free and silver in 200m breast. Michael White (11) had two close swims in 100m free and 50m free, and Jo Nehme (11) got a bronze in 50m free and an excellent PB in his 100m free .

Team Manager Matthew Cumber said "It was a really good day for Atlantis with every swimmer achieving some personal goals or winning medals , they all enjoyed themselves as well which shows the great atmosphere and strength in depth the club has "
