Somewhat belatedly, below is the report for the Haslemere Level 2 Meet that took place on Sunday 24th October.
For many of Atlantis’ senior swimmers this was their first individual competitive gala of the season. A 25-strong squad led by Team Manager Andy Lobley and coach Matt Cumber, made the short trip to the Surrey hills and the leafy Herons Leisure Centre.
It was a good early season work out for all the swimmers and delivered a fine haul of 57 County Qualifying times, 46 Personal Bests (PBs) and 26 first places.
There were some notable individual performances. Matt Fulcher (15) broke the one minute mark for the first time to take 2nd place in the 100m free. George Boyle (12) was one fire picking up six medals in all, and knocking nearly 21 secs off his 400 IM PB, 6 secs off his 100m Free and 5 secs off his 200m breast. Edward Hundleby enjoyed himself over the longer distances, improving his 400 free PB by an impressive 14 secs in taking first place and nearly five secs to claim second in the 200m IM. Sister Beth (14) knocked 5 secs off her PB to win the gruelling 400m Free in a great time of 4.50.49. Beth Britton (11) achieved a clean sweep of seven golds in all the events she entered and sisters Ella (12) & Kate Windle (10) picked up three golds apiece.
There were also good swims and times from Aimee Davies, Eleanor Morris, Tegan Jenkins, Amber Magee, Jess Matlock, Becky Lobley, Issy Dunlop, Gemma Cumber, Sam Carter, Joe Harrod and Issy Harrod. Special mention must go to Issy Davies, who was making one of her first competitive outings in Atlantis colours following her move earlier in the year from Cranleigh. She swam with conviction all day and was rewarded with a couple of PBs and a CQT.
Andy Lobley said: “This was a pleasing set of swims so early in our training cycle. We will be looking to step up the training over the next couple of months with the County Championships the first major competition milestone in our sights in February and early March”.
