Atlantis SC at Sussex County Relays

12th September 2010

It only seemed like yesterday that Atlantis SC closed their doors for a well earned rest at the beginning of August. After only two weeks of light training the club was back in action last Sunday at the Sussex County Relays held in Brighton.

The morning got off to a fabulous start with the 9-10 year old girls dominating both of their events the 4 x 50Metre freestyle and the 4 x 50 Individual Medley winning gold in both. The 11 -12 year old girls were also in very good form securing silver in both of their events. The boys were also in action in the same age groups and although they just missed out on qualifying for the finals the performance of all the boys showed great promise. Both boys’ teams have little experience of this type of event and racing against tough opposition was invaluable for the future.

The afternoon saw the turn of the 13-15 year old boys and girls. Both teams found themselves against some strong opposition and put in solid performances all round. The boy’s team made the finals of both of their events with the girls like the younger boys just missing out.

Head Coach Bill Penny was optimistic afterwards saying” Given the season is so young I was especially pleased with the overall performance of the whole squad. No one seems to have lost their 50Metre speed and our younger girls once again showed their class. We are looking forward to another strong season”.
