Bracknell and Wokingham Open Meet May 2010

26th May 2010

A small group of Atlantis swimmers descended on the Army Garrison town of Aldershot to compete last weekend at the Bracknell and Wokingham Level 1 Long Course Open Meet. The area is more used to soldiers training for battle but they would have been highly impressed with the fitness and determination shown by the swimmers from all the clubs competing.

The event was held in the armyís own 50M pool and although not known for producing fast swims the Atlantis teams still managed some great results. Beth Britton (10) showed her future potential with some great personal bests in the 50 and 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 100 Fly.

Cameron Lambourne performed to his usual high standard bagging 3 golds and 2 silvers,  dominating his age group. Issy Dunlop took gold in the `100m Breastroke for 15 year olds and Bex Lobley and Kelci OíKeefe both swam great races to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively in the same race. The races are seeded into previous performance times as opposed to ages and it is a great mark of the clubs development to have three swimmers in the final heat. Bex also took gold in the 200m breast.

Kate Windle still aged 9 produced some great results including a 6th place in an extremely tough under 11 age group. Her sister Ella (11) reliably added to her medal haul with 2 silvers in the 200m Free and 400m IM.

Joe Harrod who has been out with a shoulder injury narrowly missed out on breaking the magical 60 second barrier in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1.00.64. Like many Atlantis swimmers Joe will have another opportunity shortly as the club goes to the Age Group Regionalís next weekend held at K2.

With the clubs strongest representation yet Bex also took gold in the 200m breast., the club looks forward to some great racing.
