Crawley B Grade Trophy Team Gala
19th September 2016
By Jane Holden, Coach.
On the weekend of the 17th September we took a young team to the Crawley B Grade Trophy Gala at the K2.
We had a number of nervous first timers in the team as well as some more experienced swimmers and every single one of them swam their hearts out with some great results and PBs.
The following swimmers won their events:Amelia Stone and Anna Sayers in the 50m fly and Luke Gausden and Bruno Haskell who won their backstroke events. Bella Payne. Rebecca Egan, Mia Sette and Anna Sayers and the boy’s team of Billy Brigdon, Oliver Colombo, newcomer Jeremy Lee and Luke Gausden also won their freestyle relays.
Other notable swims came from newcomer’s brother and sister AY and Deba Osague who both produced nifty freestyle sprints and Jude Craen who lost his goggles in his first ever gala but put his head down, carried on racing and came third!
The gala culminated in a mixed squadron relay which ended up being a very exciting and close affair with Atlantis touching second by a fraction.
Overall we came second although if there was a trophy for cheering we would definitely have won. All the swimmers should be extremely proud.
The coaching team would like to thank club captains and national squad swimmers Aiden Sparling, Beth Britton and Dan Jones for coming poolside to help out and support the team and also Sylvana Haskell and Isobel Clarke for giving up the comfy seats in the stand to help out as timekeeper and judge.
Andy Lobley was delighted with our first outing of the season “If we can perform with the enthusiasm and competitiveness in our team events this season then I am going to be delighted. I thought the team spirit throughout the evening was some of the best I have seen from Atlantis teams.”
