Alice Dauncy Gala.

26th February 2015

Atlantis took a team to Crawley on Saturday 22nd February to compete in the annual gala which is time limited, so if you swim too fast you get disqualified from the points ! It's a way of stopping faster swimmers and teams from swimming. We were up against Crawley , Beacon , Redhill , East Grinstead , Worthing and Hastings . The age groups were 10 and under , 12 and under , 14 and under and Open. However we didn't have any swimmers in the Open age group and our oldest were only 14. We had several under 10s making their debut for the club and everyone had a fabulous and fun evening poolside with a near full spectator gallery the atmosphere was great. After 12 races we were in 4th place , but our relay teams kept winning despite the same teams being in the 14 and unders and Open! So by the half way stage we were in first place. We exceeded the time limit in several races but kept up our lead right until the end. Despite being awarded the trophy on the night , we actually came second to Beacon after an official enquiry due to miscalculation of scores. We didn't expect to do so well anyway so to finish so highly against the other Sussex clubs was very pleasing and the swimmers did themselves proud. Thanks to everyone who helped on the night Karen Jones and Jane Holden Graham.
