Meanwhile, away from the pool......

17th June 2014

Last weekend was a hectic sports weekend to say the least. What with something going on in Brazil, the golf in the USA, rugby in New Zealand and the Cricket at Lord's, one may be forgiven for forgetting that there was still some swimming going on. Our top youngsters were at K2 for the second weekend of this year's Regional Championships, and there is now a report in the Gala Section of the website. Also Gold squad members Yaz and Lily were joined by Lily's mum, Kate, in the River Arun, where they competed for the first time in the River Arun Ironman Swim. In the ladies section Yaz and Lily finished 2nd and 3rd in the 3.8km race. Overall, out of 351 swimmers they were 3rd and 9th. Impressive stuff! However, they were not the only ones taking on the open water, as our Gala Queen, Kerry Porter tackled Lake Windermere, in the Great North swim. Kerry completed the gruelling 2 mile swim in 1 hour and 20minutes and in doing so raised nearly 500 for her chosen charity, Marie Curie Cancer Care. Well done Kerry!
