’Splash into 2014’

On the 5th January Atlantis travelled down to Felpham for the first level 3 gala of the New Year hosted by Littlehampton Swimming Club. With teams participating from all over Sussex and some parts of Surrey we were in for a busy day.

First event was the boys 50m Freestyle which brought our first success with Hamish Milne-Skillman winning the 13 year old age group in a brilliant time of 27.83s (CQT) Hamish continued on form to win the 100m Individual Medley and 50m Backstroke. The girls 50m breaststroke followed and another two gold medals for Lilly Cherriman (13) and Eve Clarke (12) who also followed this up with a win in the 200m Freestyle and a silver in the 50m fly. This event was won by Freya Fulcher (12) who also got a second in the 200m freestyle.

As the day progressed Atlantis were also doing well with the number of County Qualifying Times being achieved, 22 in all (3 new). Special mention should go to Oliver Wellby who got his first ever CQT in the 50m Freestyle!

The afternoon was dominated by Michael Pallister (9) who won 3 gold medals in the 50m breaststroke 200m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly with an incredible time of 40.51seconds. Cameron Holden-Graham (11) also did well with 2 gold medals for the 50m Breaststroke and 200m freestyle to add to his 2 silvers and 1 bronze from the morning. Emily Wenzel won the 100m Individual Medley and 50m Backstroke in the 15 year girls events.

Congratulations also to the other medallists on the day – Kate Wilson, Olivia Pitman, George Haskell, Isabella Hayes and Aiden Sparling.

The swimmers did extremely well and should be proud that their hard work is starting to pay off which could be seen by the number of good personal best times achieved.
