A winning start to our Sussex League campaign.

11th February 2013

Atlantis Swimming Club travelled to Haywards Heath on Saturday 9th February to compete in the first round of the Sussex League against East Grinstead Swimming Club and Hastings Seagulls Swimming Club.

The Sussex league is split into two divisions with Atlantis in Division One , where, over several months, the competing clubs will swim against each other with an overall winner declared at the end. There are 55 races on the night, which are individual races where two swimmers from each club race, and relay events where it's one team per club with points for places. The squad is made up of boys and girls in under 12, under 14, under 16 and open categories. Atlantis had many swimmers swimming in their first league competition and many swimming against competitors older than themselves .

The night started really well for the club in the under 16 individual medley, with Eleanor Morris and Ella Windle taking first and second . George Boyle also came in first in the next race which was the boys under 16 individual medley and Atlantis took control from this point on and didn't allow Hastings or East Grinstead many chances to get back into it. The other wins on the night were from Bex Lobley, Eleanor Morris, Lauren Pedel, James North, Issy Davis, Ella Windle, Lily Davis, James Hartley, George Boyle and Guy Sherwin .

With the relay teams performing so well, Atlantis won nearly half the races with many one twos and one threes which meant they finished on 382 pts, with East Grinstead on 322 and Hastings on 304.

The next round is on the 15th June at The Pavillions, against Eastbourne and Mid Sussex Marlins.
