Three Atlantis swimmers – Cam Lambourne, Sam Carter and Issy Dunlop - represented Sussex at the Inter-Counties National Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield on Sunday.

For Cam the championships marked a return to the scene of his fantastic silver medal in the National Age Group Championships in the summer; for Sam and Issy this was the first time swimming at Sheffield in a national competition.

Cam swam in the 100m free, the 200m medley relay and the squadron relay; Sam the 200m medley and the squadron; and Issy the 100m breast and 200m medley relay.  All three swam well against some very classy competition, with Cam chalking up a national qualifying time of 55.65 in the 100m free and Issy a PB of 1.18.65 in the 100m breast.

The three helped Sussex to 10th place out of 20 counties in Division 1.  This is the highest place that the Sussex team has achieved in recent years in a competition that has been dominated for the last 7 years by Lancashire, who were winners again this year.

Next weekend Cam and Katy Harris will be flying the flag for Atlantis at the English Schools Swimming Association finals at Crystal Palace.

All of the 11 Atlantis swimmers in the Sussex County Squad have a special training day In Eastbourne in December to look forward to.  The day will be led by Olympic and Commonwealth Games swimmer Ross Davenport and will include water work, land training, a recovery workshop and presentations from the University of Brighton’s famous Chelsea School.  There will also be an opportunity for swimmers to ask Ross about his swimming experiences, especially his time in Beijing and at the recent world championships in Rome.
