Plymouth Leander Long Course December meet.

17th December 2012

Atlantis SC travelled to Plymouth Life Centre last weekend for the first International Meet at the new swimming complex. Home of 2012 Olympic champion Ruta Meilutyte, the meet attracted international swimmers from places as far as Malaysia. Also swimming were several members of the GB olympic team for their respective clubs. The Atlantis swimmers were not put off by such strong opposition and performed really well. Kate Windle (12) won a Bronze Medal in her age group for the 200 Breaststroke. Other notable swims came from Eleanor Morris ( 200 Backstroke) and George Boyle ( 100 Breaststroke) both making finals in the Junior Division for the first time at such a large event. Continuing in her good form Bex Lobley picked up a Silver and Bronze Medal in the Senior 50, 100 Breast and narrowly missed out in the 200 finishing 4th only 0.3sec off 3rd place. Bex completed her National qualifying times in the 50, 100 and 200 Breast and can now look forward to some tough training before the National Championships held in Sheffield in the Summer.

Deputy Head Coach Andy Lobley, down in Plymouth with the swimmers, commented " We are delighted with the results from this weekend, our swimmers have been working very hard including a week training camp in October and have raced every weekend since. To finish the year in such good form is very positive for the club and we expect to see some further good results as we head into 2013. It is great for our swimmers to experience meets like this one where they have to travel, stay overnight and race heats and finals in the same sessions, and of course to line up on the blocks with Olympic swimmers is inspiring for them"
