Atlantis compete for The Kingsland Paper Trophy.

17th September 2012

On the evening of Saturday 15th September Atlantis took a team to Crawley to compete in the annual Kingsland Paper Trophy against teams from Beacon , Crawley A & B and Mid Sussex Marlins. The age groups were from 9 and under to 14 and under, and we swam many debutants across the ages, who, after some initial nerves, really enjoyed themselves and did themselves and the club proud ..

It was an exciting evening and after the first 20 events a clear lead was taking place with Atlantis and Marlins drawing away from the others. It was neck and neck for the whole night and due to committments at an open meet during the day, we only had one 14 and under girl , so we had to call on many of the 12 and unders and even 11 and unders to swim up age groups all evening . A big well done to Natasha Golding , Lily Davis and Gemma Cumber who, having competed in the open meet in Brighton all day, came straight to Crawley ( with Lily still in her costume from her last race at Brighton ) to swim .

It went down to the wire with Atlantis winning the dramatic finale of the squadron relay , but in the end Marlins pipped it by just 6 points. Well done to all and especially to the helpers on the day - Matt Fulcher and George Boyle who came poolside to help out and set such a great example to our younger swimmers .
