Pavillions in the Park host the County Relay Gala.

17th September 2012

The swimming season had only just begun, with Atlantis only being back in training for just over two weeks when they were into their first gala on Sunday 9th September when The Pavillions in Horsham hosted the annual Sussex County Relays . This was first time Horsham has hosted the event which has previously been held in Brighton and everything went “swimmingly”!

With teams coming from across the whole of Sussex in every age group , the competition was very fierce . Many teams including Atlantis put in an A and B team in many of the age groups.

The morning session saw the 9-10 year old girls A team make the final in both the Freestyle and Medley relays and the 9-10 year old boys team of James North , Kian Cooke , Toby Van Der Hut and Nick Cooper make the final of the medley and take the bronze medal in the freestyle relay.

The boys 11-12 year olds made the final of the freestyle relay , with the girls 11-12 year olds A and B teams making both finals with the A team of Lauren Pedel, Lily Davis , Kate Windle and Isabelle Storey taking Gold in the Medley and Silver in the Freestyle .

The afternoon saw the older age group teams compete with the girls 13-14 year old team of Ella Windle , Eleanor Morris , Aimee Davies and Yasmin Hooker taking bronze in the freestyle and silver in medley. The boys 13-14 year olds made the finals of both relay events as well . In the 15+ age groups the girls B team made the final of both relay events , the A team were deprived of a final place by a contentious disqualification in the freestyle but made up for it with a silver medal in the medley event .

Bill Penny head coach at Atlantis said “We had a very successful meet , being so early on in the season when our swimmers are training hard, so to make so many finals was pleasing. We again showed our strength with A and B teams making finals, and to win a gold , three silvers and two bronzes was a real bonus” .
