A successful trip to Cardiff.

27th June 2012

Atlantis took a small party of swimmers over the river Severn last weekend to take part in the Cardiff International Open Meet. Swimmers Isobel Dunlop, Bex Lobley, Issy Davis, Eleanor Morris, Yasmin Hooker, Matt Fulcher, Kate and Ella Windle all made the journey down the M4, to compete in the 50m, ten lane pool. Kate and Bex continued their good form, winning 7 medals between them. The format of the meet sees heats during the day with finals in the evening and provides great experience for the swimmers.

Andy Lobley reported "Apart from having to watch the England V Sweden game in a Welsh venue, the weekend was very successful or us. We had two swimmers who are due to swim at the British Nationals in July and several other swimmers who will have gained enormous experience from swimming away from home. Not only did they swim against different competition, this gave them the chance to compete over 3 days and live out of a suitcase. We were keen that the swimmers were given independence and learnt how to look after themselves whilst competing at a high level. For us the meet was extremely successful and all of our swimmers put in some really good performances and have come home better swimmers. They all swam with great attitude and nearly all made finals over the weekend which is a proud achievement for the club".

This was the second time Atlantis have sent swimmers to this competition, and due to its success, it is hoped it will become a regular fixture in our competition calendar.
