Runners up in Dorking!

27th February 2012

We took a team to Dorking on Saturday evening for a speed limiting gala with teams from Godalming, Dorking ,Swim Excell , Sutton & Cheam and Wey Valley .

Even though it was Counties weekend we still had swimmers ( and Coaches ) who, after spending all day at K2, came up to Dorking to swim for the team , so well done to Kian Cooke , Lily Davis and Gemma Cumber ( and Andy Lobley ) .  There were also some late additions to the squad, due to illness, so thanks to those who came in at the last minute. We also had several first timers swimming in the under 10's age group .

A speed limiting gala, for anyone who doesn't know, is one where each race has a top time on it , so if you swim faster than the time - you don't get any points ! - its a way of stopping you swimming your fastest swimmers and a really excellent way for swimmers to compete who perhaps don't always get a chance to represent the club .

We had the smallest squad at the gala with only 21 swimmers - which meant many younger swimmers had to swim up the age groups - having just finished one race, they were being quickly returned to the start to swim again! So with our novices and speed limiting times - out of 39 events we didn't score points in 12 events , and were in last position at the half way stage - despite this, we pulled off a magnificent 2nd place finish , just behind Godalming in the end. A real true testament to some really brave and strong swimming and great to see swimmers from Billingshurst and Horsham together which shows good future for our club.

We had a really enjoyable evening , both for parents and the swimmers.

Well done all.
