Great results at Portsmouth

18th January 2012

Last weekend, at Portsmouth, six of the clubs Senior swimmers were in action at the Mountbatten Centre which has one of the best 50M pools in the country. The swimmers are all currently in a strong training programme ahead of the ASA Southern Zonal Championships to be held in Somerset in a fortnights time. Having already secured two National Qualifying times, Cameron Lambourne was in good form as he repeated this achievement in both the 50M and 100M freestyle. Cam is targeting the British Championships in April and came agonishingly close in the 50M free, missing by just under 0.5 secs. Bex Lobley was also in a confident mood as she swam 2 secs under the National Qualifying time in the 200M Breast, a race she had already qualified for back in December. Sunday afternoon saw the 100M Breast and a great race saw her pipped into second place but the disappointment turned to joy when she realised she had achieved her second National Time of the season. Jade Stocker and Kate Windle both came within 2 seconds of achieving National times and with much of the season left for the swimmers to get them, a very happy Head Coach Bill Penny  said I am very happy with all the swimmers' performances down at Portsmouth. Cam and Bex are both getting good results at the moment and I am very confident that a string of swimmers will be joining them. We can go to Somerset in a couple of weeks very confident
