National Arena League Round 2
20th November 2011
On Saturday 12th November the team made the long trip down to Dover for Round 2 of the National League . Atlantis having come second in the previous round had drawn very strong competition in the form of Dover Lifeguards , Orpington Ojays , Beckenham B , Hastings Seagulls and White Oaks.
To put us into the next round we needed to ensure we finished in the top 2 places which meant we had to ensure that in every race we did as well as we possibly could which meant swimmers really turning in a performance and doing their best for the team when they were needed.
We were missing a couple of swimmers on the night and even our Deputy Head Coach was away ( although he was in touch all evening by phone) so a special thank you to all the swimmers , coaches , officals from the club and helpers poolside showed once again that the club has a fantastic team spirit thoughout .
We had a great position in Lane 4 with our main competion Dover Lifeguards and Orpington Ojays either side of us
It was a very exciting night poolside and we started off the evening in style in the Open IM with Katy Harris grabbing 2nd place and Cam Lambourne 1st . It was a great start and just what we needed and as the night unfolded we secured many more wins , but more importantly Atlantis fought for every position and every point available .
By the halfway stage the very strong Dover Lifeguards were in 1st place with 116pts , Orpington in 2nd place with 108 pts with Atlantis in 3rd place on 105pts.
The second half of the evening showed our stamina and resilience and out of the remaining 25 events we came 1st or 2nd in 15 of them , ensuring that we achieved our objective on the night
The evening was finished off with the most exciting fashion with the Open F/S relays for Girls and Boys where Chris Tait had been drafted in to give the boys team an added boost , and if you can imagine over 100 screaming children plus the spectators and the Dover team who had a drum on poolside to add to the atsmosphere - you could not hear yourself think ......
The final results were
Dover Lifeguards 226
Orpington Ojays 198
Beckinham B 126
White Oak 91
Roll on the next round on December 10th and lets hope for a closer venue this time!
