Five Atlantis swimmers have been selected to represent Sussex at the National Inter County Team Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield on 16th October.

The five are senior club captains Cameron Lambourne (16) and Katy Harris (17); junior club captains Sam Carter (15) and Issy Dunlop (16); and Beth Britton (12), who will be making her debut in county colours.  Their selection follows a county squad training session at K2, Crawley on 10th September.

Cam and Katy are reigning Open County Champions in 100 free and 100 back, while Issy and Beth are current county age group champions in breast and back respectively.

The Atlantis representation in this year’s Sussex 25-strong team is the highest ever.  The Inter County Championships are comprised of two divisions.  Sussex competes in Division 1 and will be pitched against near neighbours Surrey, as well as the traditionally strong counties of the North - Lancashire and Yorkshire. The championship is a short-course (25m pool) competition  and is divided into three age groups.  Beth will be swimming in the junior section (12/13), Sam and Cam in the intermediates (15/16) and Issy and Katy in the seniors (16/17).

Atlantis Head Coach Bill Penny said: “Representing the county at a team event is a nicely different experience for the swimmers.  They have the opportunity to mix with another group of team-mates.  They also have an early season chance to pit themselves against the best swimmers of their age in the country”.
