20th September 2009

The meet features almost exclusively 50m races and a 100m individual medley.  Atlantis swimmers chalked up an impressive tally of 20 trophies for top-three finishes and a further 13 medals for 4th, 5th and 6th places.   They also secured no less than 25 qualifying times for the Sussex County Championships to be held next February, as well as an incredible 85 personal best times between them.

All the swimmers were stars.  However, very much to the fore were Becky Lobley, who was in fine form, storming home in the girls 13 year old 50m breaststroke and freestyle, and picking up a 2nd in the 100m individual medley and a 3rd in the 50m butterfly.  Kate Windle and Leah Clarke, maintaining their fantastic early season form, dominated the 9 year old girls section with Kate coming first in the 100m IM and 50m breast, second in the 50m back and a couple of thirds in Fly and Free; Leah captured the 50m Free and Fly and took second in breast.  For the boys Toby Underwood took the 10 year old boys 50m breast and three third-place finishes in the 100m IM, 50m Free and Fly.   Also showing up well were Joe and Issy Harrod and Aimee Davies, who were also among the trophies.

The most improved swim of the day went to one of Atlantis’ younger swimmers, Eleanor Morris, who knocked a fabulous 18 seconds off her previous personal best in the 50m Fly.

Team Manager Paul Blyth, commenting on the performances, said: “Our swimmers have come back from the summer holidays raring to go.  There is a real buzz poolside and that is reflected in the results and the times people are clocking.  This was a great team effort”.
