Plans for 2023.....

Welcome to Atlantis fundraising 2023.

With the help and support of our members and local community, we survived the difficulties that the pandemic threw at us and we can now look forward to  investing in projects to ensure that Atlantis SC continues to keep it's prominent place amongst the top competitive swimming clubs in the region.

Fundraising - July total

JULY:  A huge thank you to Alex Harvey Estate Agents who celebrated their 5th anniversary with a party.  They kindly donated 50% of the proceeds to Atlantis SC.

MAY/JUNE: Junior and Intermediate Squads took their turn in the 2023 fundraising calendar and what an outstanding job they did!!  They held a second hand kit stall over the weekend of the 10th June and a sponsored park 'fun' run also on the 10th. These together with a member contribution raised a huge total of £805.60 - read all their news in issue 5 of the Atlantis Fundraising Newsletter.   Congratulations Junior and Intermediate - you smashed it!!

MARCH AND APRIL:  Foundation Squads kicked off the squad fundraising for 2023.  They started with a 2nd hand kit sale at the March Madness Meet, this was followed by 2 Easter projects; The Easter Hamper Raffle and the Ecoracing Virtual Balloon Race.  These 3 events raised an amazing £794.  The latest fundraising newsletter is attached (issue 3).

ATLANTIS FUNDRAISING NEWSLETTER:  ISSUE 1,   ISSUE 2.   ISSUE 3   UPDATE,     ISSUE 5

The projects we would like to fund during 2023 are:

  • Swim bridges
  • Backstroke ledges

Continued training to enhance our coaches qualificationsThroughout 2023 the squads will be running fundraising events to raise £8,000

The plan to raise these funds is as follows and, as always, we are open to suggestions on

fundraising ideas and these can be sent to atlantissc.fundraising@gmail.com.

2023 has been split between the squads.

March/April - F1/F2

May/Jun - Junior/Intermediate

September/October - County/Regional

November/December - National/Sen/Masters

During the two months of the squad's fundraising, as many or as few events as is felt necessary and appropriate can be run. At the end of the year the squads that have raised the most will be rewarded.

Let's tell you a little more about the projects:

Swim Bridges: Swim Bridge™️ is the premier training system to improve underwater swimming performance. This effective piece of equipment that attaches to the lane rope will focus on the swimmer's training for the underwater push and glide from the wall. Photo below, we hope to purchase one for each lane of the Pavilions and will be used across all squads. Total cost of purchase £450.

Back stroke Ledges: This will be the biggest purchase that Atlantis will make, at a cost of over £600 each, we hope to raise enough to purchase 2 this year and continue to raise funds to purchase more. Again, these will be used at the Pavilions and across all squads. The backstroke ledge improves the start push and trajectory of the swimmers when they enter the water.

Coach qualifications: We would like to continue to invest in our volunteer coaches and their professional qualifications. Ensuring Atlantis SC continue to attract coaches to provide the highest level of coaching for our swimmers, to inspire and deliver success in the competitive world of swimming. Swim Coach training is £620 and the Senior Coach course is £2000. We would like to contribute to 4 coach courses at £620 each.

We are compiling a calendar of fundraising events for the rest of 2023 and into 2024 - do you have any ideas?  Would like to help organise a fundraising event?  If so, please get in touch on atlantissc.fundraising@gmail.com

So as you’ll have worked out, I’m Ben. I live in Sussex with my wife Emma and our two sons, Josh and Ollie.

I am available to undertake projects large or small. I enjoy all types of photography, with people, sports events and architecture being particular favourites, but I am always willing to try new things! My photos capture moments in life: moments captured in-between moments, not necessarily the formal moments themselves!

What Atlantis means to our members .....

We received so many words of encouragement during our Crowdfunder, here is just one story and thank you Simon for sharing it with us and for allowing us to use it on our website:

'Swimming is in our family’s DNA ... as a young man my father was a club swimmer and competitive diver so naturally my sister and I also became club swimmers, swimming for Barracuda’s SC based out of Morden before in later years it merged with Cheam Marlins.  My father went on to become a coach at Barracuda’s and I had decent success as part of my School team at Caterham.. for me swimming later became the foundation for fun being had with endurance events such as long distance triathlon’s and open water challenges such as the Thames marathon

So I suppose it was inevitable that my three kids would be encouraged towards swimming and in the end two of them found their way to the Atlantis club and swimming family. For me club swimming provides so many things that go way beyond the fun and challenge of competition..
... different social experiences
... the discipline of training and the life impacting health benefits
... self confidence and camaraderie
.... smiles, highs and sometimes lows
... a reason to go to MacDonalds

Supporting Atlantis is a pleasure and an investment in young people’s lives (and those that are forever young in the Masters squad of course ;)). My hope is that Atlantis navigates the current challenges and  continues to go from strength to strength. Perhaps even my children’s children will find their way to club swimming at some time in the future'
